The calming power of water…
Being a nature enthusiast, I love highlighting animals interacting with their natural environments within my paintings, such as on land, water and sky, influenced by the 5 elements of water, air, fire, wood and earth. Today we're going to talk about one element in particular…water, for it has a particularly powerful emotion connection. I’ll be sharing 4 potent water-inspired paintings of mine to demonstrate this effect, make sure you stick around until the end of the article to see which one speaks to you.
The Element of Water in Art and Feng Shui
What’s Feng Shui? The Feng Shui Society define it as
"The art and philosophy of designing harmonious environments based on the profound Chinese understands of how people are connected to and affected by their close surroundings."
See how artwork can be a powerful way to practise Feng Shui? You can focus on certain elements to bring about positive changes in your environment. The water element is thought to be associated with wealth and abundance. With that understanding, water inspired artworks are best placed in areas where you would like to encourage this flow of energy, such as in a study room or living area.
Colour Psychology of Blue and Green
Blue and green are magically calming colours. Take a moment to think about what your favourite place in nature is…Perhaps it's by the sea, looking up at the sky or in the forest. That’s the connection to blue and green. Nature is all around us and inside us. In a world of digital screens, we need more of it. I encourage you to bring a bit of nature inside your home to keep you grounded.
Let’s dive into 4 water inspired wildlife wall art paintings to help you do that…
Tiger wall art
This tiger painting encapsulates the striking spirit of the tiger…focussed with its eyes set on the prize. Calmly gliding through serene glassy waters. Tigers represent strength, power and courage, so perhaps this painting would be best suited to a home office. With less than 500 Amur tigers left in the wild, this is one incredible species that needs our help. I plan to adopt an Amur tiger following the sale of this artwork.

Polar bear wall art
My polar bear painting titled ‘The Great Quest’ sees a lone polar bear proudly standing among a stark vast landscape of blues. Very introspective, this painting poetically calls to ponder issues of climate change. This painting would be well suited to a living area, a striking piece sure to spark conversation.
‘The Great Quest’, polar bear, acrylic paint on linen canvas, 20 × 30 inches.
Beaver wildlife art art
This sweet beaver painting is called ‘just keep swimming’. A reminder of productivity and perseverance…as this beaver dynamically pushes ahead against all odds. This painting comes framed in a lovely little light wood colour, with its small but mighty size, it would make the perfect gift for a loved one.
‘Just keep swimming’, beaver, acrylic paint on linen, approx 9 × 12 inches. Framed.
Watch me paint this beaver…lots of layers went into creating these multicoloured waters.
Seal wildlife wall art
This seal painting is one of my favourites, it’s my first (and currently only) circular painting. Titled ‘no more hiding’ to symbolise the courage of this cheeky seal to pop its head out of the water and show itself off to the world. As a spirit animal, the seal also represents curiosity and opportunity. The serene blues within this artwork are very relaxing to look at…it would look lovely and unique hanging on your wall.
‘No more hiding’, seal, acrylic paint on wood panel, 11.8 inches round.
